Curriculum


Introduction


HOPE English provides students complete English learning, from listening, reading, writing, grammar and speaking with the use of authentic materials, practical and interactive challenges. Language learning now becomes more convenient with the use of video and phone conferencing to meet the fast-paced demands of life and global standards.

The HOPE Curriculum aims to:

  • To enhance skills in the English language in an authentic and practical fun-filled English environment
  • To embrace and enjoy relationships with international fellows
  • To expand global awareness by recreating education with the use of technology
  • To be renewed and empowered through integration of values
  • To promote active participation in the community

Beginner Level

This course is designed to prepare learners with limited English proficiency instructions to increase their ability to communicate in English and to communicate effectively in a multi-faceted society. In the Beginner Level, learners are exposed to meaningful simple speaking activities for vocabulary acquisition grammar in use and accurate pronunciation of at least 1000 English words that will enable them to communicate in and outside the classroom setting. Learners are assessed using IELTStests and a benchmark checklist.

Intermediate

This course is designed to prepare learners with level higher than beginner level English proficiency the instructions to increase their ability to communicate in English and to communicate effectively in a wider variety of contexts. In the Intermediate Level, learners are exposed to meaningful simple speaking activities for vocabulary acquisition, grammar usage and accurate pronunciation of at least 3000 English words that will enable them to communicate in and outside the classroom setting. Learners are assessed using IELTStests and a benchmark checklist.

Advanced

This course is designed to prepare learners with level higher than intermediate level English proficiency the instructions to increase their ability to communicate in English and to communicate effectively in a wider variety of contexts. In the Advanced Level, learners are exposed to meaningful complex speaking activities for idiomatic expressions, higher order vocabulary, grammar usage and accurate pronunciation of at least 5000 English words that will enable them to communicate excellently in reports, interviews, debates, seat-com and the like in and outside the classroom setting. Learners are assessed using IELTS/TOEFL Speaking tests and a benchmark checklist.

Business English

Business English is under the category English for Special Purposes (ESP) a webbing discipline under Advanced English Level.

It aims to:

  1. Use English for business communication in some situations via speaking, writing and listening;
  2. Adapt passages and articles on business topics and identify main ideas;
  3. Carry on business correspondence by understanding and replying to simple in-coming e-mails, faxes.
  4. To communicate information that is complete, correct, comprehensible and valuable.
  5. To adapt to new work environment, interact with unfamiliar people in unfamiliar situations by providing relevant materials.

American Accent

The American Accent is the most popular English accent of all. Accent is a combination of three main components: intonation (speech music), liaisons (wordconnections), and pronunciation (the spoken sounds of vowels, consonants, and combinations). So, thinking of music, feeling, and flow, let your mouth relax into the American accent.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

Hope English helps assess the language ability of studentswho need to study or work where English is the languageof communication.It covers the four language skills –listening, reading, writing and speaking.IELTS is recognised by universities and employers in manycountries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UKand the USA. It is also recognised by professional bodies,immigration authorities and other government agencies.

TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an exam required by most US and Canadian universities to prove proficiency(especially international students coming from countries where English is not native language) in English. It measures one's listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks in English.
